Here's the beautiful gold-medal-winning program from Jian Tong and Quing Pang at the 2010 World Championships in Torino, Italy. They skate to "Impossible Dream" from Man of la Mancha.
With this program, the Chinese pair won their second World gold medal, and also finished a close second at the Olympics in Vancouver. In fourth place after the short program at the Olympics, they skated superbly in the freeskate to win that portion of the event and finishing second overall, coming remarkably close to winning the whole thing. They finished behind their Chinese compatriots, Xue Shen and Hongbo Zhao. Their Olympic skate was one of those dream performances that transcends sport. They were truly magical and wonderfully expressive. It was a poignant moment in their careers.
While their Worlds freeskate, posted here, isn't quite as enchanting as their Olympic one, it's still terrific. The music and choreography blend seamlessly with their astounding athletic tricks.
"Impossible Dream" is a fitting song for how everyone feels at the end of the semester. Too much to do, too little time. It doesn't seem possible to finish everything. We are sick, we are tired, we are emotionally and physically drained. The task feels daunting, but yes, it can be done! We can prevail! We can"reach the unreachable star!"
I hope you can feel uplifted with this performance! As a bonus, I'll also post a video of the phenomenal Luther Vandross singing "Impossible Dream" below.
Enjoy!
